Knowing what you want to do with your life is a blissful feeling. When I decided to dye my hair I knew that it would work for me. It was fighting the opinions of others that almost got to me. I had to know I knew what I was doing no matter what. Every day since I have been ecstatic I didn't get deterred.
The process of going blue took longer than I wanted. I had to find the right salon to get the job done. For the longest I was struggling to get my vision into the right hands. Recently, I was blessed to find Jasmere Black (IG @jasblack) at Studio Lush (IG @studiolushdetroit). Discovering this salon was like a breath of fresh air. I went in for a consultation and felt super comfortable and excited about what was next to come.
She was able to fit me into her schedule and make the magic happen right away. I couldn't wait for my transformation day. We started early in the day as the appointment would take many hours. She started by prepping my hair and then I went blonde baby!
I heard mixed reviews about having my hair lifted but I knew I wouldn't be able to achieve my look any other way. She put a protein treatment on my hair while it was blonde to keep my hair hydrated. After a few more rinses and conditioning, it was time for the blue!!
Now, this look was called multidimensional color. My hair has many levels to it. I just gave Jas the wheel and had to trust her with my vision. After the color was applied, I sat under a steamer for about an hour to let my color set. I had a mimosa while I dried so you already know I was doing just fine. I was then rinsed and sat in front of the mirror for first time.
When I tell you I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a sight to see!! If you don't know, when hair is wet, it is much brighter and in your face. Jas asked me what I thought and the only thing I could utter is "I'll just wait until you're finished" lol.
She then blow dried my hair and clipped my ends. She basically gave me a hair cut but it was necessary so I wasn't tripping. I showed her a picture of how I wanted it styled and she delivered. Once cut and styled I was in love. It was greater than my vision and that's because it was for me -- not a copy of what I'd see already. This look is 1 of 1 and I knew in that moment a new, elevated version of myself was born.
When you want to try something or feel in your heart something will work, run right into it and see what comes of it! If by some chance it isn't what you thought or you need to make adjustments, then do that. But never let that stop you from heading in the direction that will lead to your greatness!
After my hair transformation I had a shoot with my favorite photographer (IG @juxmbamah). Check some of the flicks out below and the rest in my Look Book!
