Birthdays have always brought me joy. I love the idea of being able to celebrate the beginning of someone's existence and all they have done thus far. I feel it is your one day a year to bask in your own glory, congratulate yourself on how far you have come, and set some new goals for the next chapter of your life.
This year I knew my birthday would be unusual. Instead of planning a beautiful dinner at a restaurant for a celebration with family and friends or booking a flight to discover a new city on the west coast, I would be at home. Understanding the horrendous state of the world I was not going to sulk or complain although I couldn't help but be disappointed. I am a May baby and Taurus through and through and this year marked my 25th birthday.
I was not going to let my milestone birthday go to waste. Spending so much time indoors and detached from outside distractions has forced me to take a deeper look inside myself. I wanted this year to set me up for the next years to come and possibly the rest of my life. I decided I would launch my fashion magazine!
It gave me something to dig into and distract me from all the things around me I couldn't control. I had 20 days to bring my way overdue project to fruition. It took hard work, dedication, and getting out of my own way but I did it! At midnight on May 20 I shared what you see with the world. At that point nothing else mattered. I didn't need all the confetti or huge cake with sparkers. I took my first step in the direction of my calling and I will never forget the moment.
Now, although I had come to terms with my birthday this year my friends and family had some plans up their sleeve to ensure I was celebrated on my day. My living room was turned into a birthday zone with a banner and balloons everywhere. When I woke up I had a morning mimosa with my dad and opened gifts with my parents!
I'm glad I got dressed after that because later that afternoon I was told to come outside to find two of my best friends in the street blasting happy birthday from a speaker while holding gifts and sparklers. I cried and they made fun of me. We ended up spacing ourselves out in my front yard for a "day party" I'll never forget. As the day went on a few others joined us and other family members drove by with posters and many sweet wishes. Next, I headed to my aunt's home to spread out in her front yard to sing happy birthday, wave out candles, and have cake with the rest of my family.
To wrap it all up, I rolled up my sleeves and headed to my kitchen to make myself one of my favorite pasta dishes while my dad made lamb steaks that would make you twerk. I could not believe the day I was having and am forever thankful to everyone that made this year one for the books.
With the spontaneous day I had I'm glad a chose and outfit that was ready for anything. The look came from PrettyLittleThings.com. The Charcoal Blue Oversized Denim Boilersuit caught my eye the moment I saw it online and knew I had to get it. I loved the idea of manly mechanic style with a deep v neck and cinched waist. The Yellow Zebra Print Mesh Unitard was something I had in my cart for a while and when I saw the price of $8, it was an easy purchase. I didn't have any intention on putting the two pieces together when I purchased them but they sure made a look!
On my feet I wore my handy dandy Nike VaporMax CPFM sneakers. Be sure to check out my product review on them. They will give any look a final push to greatness! I loved how I looked and felt confident no matter what came up that day.
If you have any type of milestone or celebration coming up, don't fret. Take it from me, these days we have to look at a bigger picture and find new ways to recognize important moments. Launching a business, learning a new language, or donating to a family in need can make a huge difference and lift your spirits. At the end of the day, you won't always remember all the details of what happened but you will remember how you felt. Make yourself feel good, stay positive, and make sure your outfit is bomb no matter what!
