Anyone else self teaching while at home?

I always amaze myself with what I can do when I really need to! These days it's in everyones best interest to see just how resourceful we can be. I have heard stories of people dying their own roots, cutting their own hair, shaping their eyebrows, and if you're like me, doing at home mani and pedi's!

I’m coming out of this quarantine with some nail skills honey! Seriously, I was bored one day and decided I would play nail tech. I love “weird” and expressive nails so I thought I’d see how hard it would be.

Before I knew it, I had painted my right hand pink and left hand blue and then slapped some green on top.

I don't know what I was thinking but I rocked it for a few days because I wasn’t going anywhere but around my house. To my surprise, the more I stared at my hands the more I was impressed by my creativity.

I was inspired to try again. This time with a little more thought. I remembered having some nail tools in my kit that could be helpful in adding some designs. I decided on pink nails with red polka dots for a subtle pop. This design was a favorite for many reasons. It stood out against my many looks (pajamas and sweats) and didn't take forever to dry! Making nails look as good as some of you do is truly a talent.. that I don’t think I have.

For anyone looking to try something new and take on their fingers, like I did, here's some advice:

1. Remember, this is a time to give your nails a break. Many of us use acrylic, gel, shellac, dip powder, etc. and all of this can be harmful over time. Take some time to look into some healthier options whether it's as small as just using regular nail polish.

2. Stock up on different colors, tools, and decals to ensure there is no limit to your creativity.

3. Set yourself up in a space that will give you some inspiration like in a window or look up some designs to recreate online.

4. Just go for it and don't be afraid to mess up. If you do, just laugh about it, let it dry, and wear it for a few days. You might find the beauty in your messed up nails like I did!
